Construction was brought to a standstill for weeks at Walt Disney World admist lockdown orders in Florida due to the ongoing pandemic. Over the course of those weeks, we noticed that construction equipment wasn’t even being moved at Epcot. But now, work has begun again on the biggest renovation in Epcot’s history. Hier in englischer Sprache ein Update zu den Veränderungen in Epcot:
Construction was brought to a standstill for weeks at Walt Disney World admist lockdown orders in Florida due to the ongoing pandemic. Over the course of those weeks, we noticed that construction equipment wasn’t even being moved at Epcot. But now, work has begun again on the biggest renovation in Epcot’s history. These photos, provided by Bioreconstruct on Twitter, give us a look at the new progress.

The main area in-between the Innoventions buildings behind Spaceship Earth is basically just dirt and old concrete now. New construction barriers have been added, but don’t expect this to be for guests. Instead, these will be temporary guides for construction crews. Guests are instead being rerouted around the outer edges of the Innoventions buildings for the time being.

Guests can take the yellow or green marked pathways to get around the construction area. This view showcases how many different lakes and waterways are in Epcot, as well.

This view also showcases a look at the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster construction, the Play! Pavilion construction, the new fountain pylon spires construction, and the Space 220 restaurant construction.

Looking closer at Future World East, we can see the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind construction at the purple dot. This was the previous structure for Ellen’s Energy Adventure. This coaster will take guests on a high-speed ride on one of the largest indoor roller coasters on the planet.

At the gold dot, we have the upcoming Play! Pavilion. This kid-friendly area will invite guests inside for character interactions, interactive digital experiences, and more.

At the blue dot, we have the upcoming Space 220 restaurant. This eatery was supposed to open last winter, but has had continuous delays. Upon opening, this location will take guests on a simulator that will feel as if they are riding 220 miles above the Earth. Upon arriving to this new space-themed destination, guest will disembark onto the Centauri Space Station and enjoy their meal with views of Earth from orbit. We currently don’t know when this restaurant is expected to open, but we are hopeful that it will open sometime this year.

The Play! Pavilion recently had a interesting update. It appears a new attraction was teased via an upcoming book, “The Disney Monorail: Imagineering a Highway in the Sky,” which contains a photo suggesting a Monorail Mark X attraction coming to Epcot in 2021.

While this is most likely a smaller form of attraction, like the older rides and experiences inside of Innoventions, it is still interesting to see this update.

At the front of Epcot, we can see the ongoing construction for the updated park entrance. The most exciting part of this update is the return of the fountain pylon spires.

These spires are directly inspired from the original look when the park opened in 1982.

While not currently finished, these pylons have already added a dramatic flair to the park’s entrance. There is no current completion date, but we expect this specific project to be finished in the near future.

In the back of the park at the France Pavilion, construction continues on for the area expansion and the upcoming Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction.

Seen from the Disney Skyliner, this view of the new area looks wonderful. This section is at the back of the France Pavilion, and will include the Ratatouille attraction and an authentic crêperie. The whole area seems like it will add plentiful room to the pavilion, as well as beautiful new views and pathways.

Bioreconstruct was able to this close up view of a backstage gate as well. Just from these shots, we can see that the immense detail that is seen all around World Showcase is continuing in this pavilion expansion.

Orange is Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, where some teams of the NBA are currently staying and practicing while in the NBA Bubble. Blue is ongoing construction on The Cove hotel, an additional structure adding onto the the Swan and Dolphin Resort; the teal dot is the Swan and the Dolphin hotels.

At green, we can see the Disney BoardWalk, which encompasses a shopping and dining area and hosts the Disney Boardwalk Resort. At the red dot, we can see a partial look at the show building that houses most of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

From inside Epcot, we can get another view of the construction on The Cove hotel expansion. We can also see work for the upcoming Harmonious nighttime spectacular. Once this show debuts, it will be the largest nighttime spectacular in Disney Parks history.

This behind-the-scenes look gives a chance to view the main firework barges. These massive floating structures will help the show combine choreographed fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, lasers and more into one show.

A lot more work has to be done before this show makes its debut. But, with social distancing in full effect at the parks, there are currently no firework shows happening. For now, we can only hope for the day when we can once be “gathered here tonight, around the fire.”

While some of these Epcot construction projects have currently been delayed, you can get a full look at the Epcot Experience presentation prior to the COVID-19 closures. This presentation showcases some of the upcoming firework spectacular, the Play! Pavilion, the Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster and more.
